Updating our Vision Statement

As we continue to develop Naked Pirate Travels into a unique, attractive, and inspiring company, we have refined our Vision Statement that, we think, fundamentally captures what we are trying to accomplish with this company.

Vision: To foster a thriving community of travelers, rebels, learners, and seekers with a dedication and passion for exploring and protecting the oceans of the world.

We will accomplish this vision through our Mission, which you can explore on our website at: https://seadogtravels.com.

It’s time to transform travel

As I sit here typing this blog post to you, I’m pondering the year of 2020 and how all of our lives have been upended in one way or another. We have all felt the impact of the year’s events — COVID-19, the economic impacts, being stuck at home, worries about pretty much everything under the Sun — but in the middle of all this chaos is a perfect time to decide it’s time to be better, do better, and to make the world a better place.

That’s what we have decided to do at Naked Pirate Travels. Most travel companies simply help you get where you’re going. From exploring Belgium to going on a luxury cruise to planning a family trip in the state next door, there are a plethora of travel agents and agencies ready to help you. In fact, you can’t throw a proverbial stick without hitting any number of agencies in your city to help you with your travels.

But … are we operating travel companies in a way that suits the challenges we will have in the 21st Century? We think not. Yes, we all know we have to focus on the customer experience, but are we limiting the experiences that are available to travelers? We think so.

What if there was a travel company that not only helped you travel where you want to go, but also offers you opportunities to live the history where you travel? To contribute to scientific research while you have fun? To bring you not just an entertaining trip, but also deeply educational experiences that expands your view and understanding of the world?

How about operating a travel company that focuses on not only promoting a sustainable, environmentally-friendly business, but lives that virtue every day?

Better yet, what about a company that directly helps the people and organizations that are working to maintain a healthy planet every day? Well, all of the above is what Naked Pirate Travels is all about.

We focus on the oceans because we understand the importance of healthy oceans to the prosperity of survival of life on Earth. We know the rich history of human civilization on the seas — from the epic Polynesian treks across the Pacific Ocean and the amazing canal and river industries of the Chinese thousands of years ago to the maritime empires of the Mediterranean Sea and the evolution of ship and ship-building through time, humanity has always utilized the seas for exploration, commerce, science, and war.

We also understand the threats to the oceans today. Plastic and micro-plastic pollution. Ocean acidification. Warming oceans. The killing of the great coral reefs of the world. Polluting ocean travel. These are all effects that are caused by human activity on the oceans and it’s up to us to fix this problem.

So, Naked Pirate Travels is taking up all of these challenges! We are passionate about reconnecting people to the oceans — whether it’s through the history of life on the seas with our tall sailing ship adventures to our ecologically inspiring sails to the reefs of the Caribbean. We are developing a truly epic sail that retraces the Middle Passage — and let’s people both experience a trans-Atlantic crossing while coming to grips with the forced migrations that occurred over the past centuries.

Our nautical adventures will also take you to the tropical islands and coastal areas of the world. We will begin with islands in the Caribbean and Pacific, as well as the New England coast, but will expand as we grow. With a nautical focus integrated in all we do, you’ll connect with the oceans and help preserve ocean life and the health of the oceans at the same time.

Not only that, but we help people who want to own their own boat or RV and begin their own explorations. We will help businesses with their missions and offer them custom nautical adventures suited to their wants and needs. And, importantly, we will promote a select group of non-profit organizations that work to understand and preserve the oceans, as well as continue understanding of humanity’s nautical heritage.

So, this is the beginning. We are working to build a truly unique, meaningful, inclusive, and inspirational organization where we are doing our part to preserve our planet for future generations. We hope you will join us. Together, we can do this. We can overcome the challenges of today to make a beautiful tomorrow.
